37°2 le matin a.k.a. Betty Blue (French, 1986)
Directed by: Jean-Jacques Beineix Written by: Philippe Dijan (novel), Jean-Jacques Beineix
Starring: Jean-Hugues Anglade, Béatrice Dalle, Dominique Pinon

French romance tour de force of the utmost degree. Perfectly flawed and human characters (what more could want?), a great script, and a lengthy timeline in which to tell its story, Betty Blue is an amazing film, and not surprising, considering it comes from director Jean-Jacques Beineix, the art house master behind one of my other favorite French flicks, Diva. Staggeringly angsty, beautiful, poignant, profound, all in one breath.

Devote your time to seeing the longer cut, it is unbelievably worth it.
